Pedro's cousins did not seem to be organised from the community itself. I thought it was a was a rebuttal of the actual sexual exploitation of the female form embraced by Summer Wheatley’s campaign. I didn’t find Napoleon’s body-positive exploration of space, time, and the male form to be inherently sexual, but I understand how it could be construed that way. When they were lawfully challenged by PHS’ administration, he backed down and found new ways to continue to build consensus that Summer needed to be replaced. Pedro’s campaign did embrace new cultural expressions. Pedro understood that Preston High School’s student government would continue to serve a limited group of students without radical political intervention.Ĭhanging that attention to reflect marginalized groups and to support FFA isn’t bribery - it’s constituent services. Community organizing that resists violent predation is the basis for good government. All we know is that they offered protection for victimized students who were not being helped by Preston High School’s staff or by other students. However, we are presented with zero evidence (beyond individual ascription) that they were gang members or even criminals. Pedro’s cousins definitely transgress the cultural norms of Preston society.
